Endurance, physical strength, flexibility, power, balance... All in one? If you are looking for a sport that helps you achieve this and more, sign up for Crosstraining, a functional training on exercises that change every day and are performed at high intensity. You dare to try it?
WHAT'S CROSSTRAINING?
Can you run for 60 minutes straight? Can you bench 40 kilos? If you answered yes to one of these questions, congratulations, even if your physical condition is not complete. You're on the right track, but ideally both endurance and physical strength work, so combined exercise routines are better for everyone. Crosstraining is one of them, though, at a higher level.
Crosstraining is a physical activity that, according to Malú Valle del Castillo, co-founder and main trainer of Greywolves Crosstraining Cantabria, is "a physical conditioning program based on a training of functional movements that varies constantly and takes place at high intensity".
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF CROSS-TRAINING?
Supporters of this type of exercise, born in the United States thanks to the work of former gymnast and coach Greg Glassman, defend that crosstraining is one of the most complete sports activities, since it works, in a varied and not monotonous way, in the ten main physical areas: agility, coordination, balance, flexibility, strength, power, precision, cardio-respiratory endurance, muscular endurance and speed.

Being a functional workout, it is based on multi-joint or compound movements, very different from those typical of a traditional gym, focusing on a particular muscle or muscle group.
In just over ten years, cross training has established itself as an additional sporting activity in the United States, and in recent years it has entered with great force in many other countries. So much so that it already has its Olympic Games held every year in California.
The cause of this rapid expansion is justified by the fact that its ever-changing exercises are based on daily life. As Malú Valle explains, in Crosstraining sessions we do many things we do every day without realizing that it is also physical exercise, such as pushing, jumping, dragging, climbing, lifting weights or doing squats when we bend over to pick something up from the ground. Of course, in Crosstraining all this is done "high intensity and constantly varied".
